Duo To Undergo Medicals After Arsenal Agree £52m Double Deal [Telegraph]

By on August 25, 2016

The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal agree a sensational double deal…

Striker Lucas Perez and defender Shkodran Mustafi are due to arrive in London to undergo their medicals after Arsenal agreed deals worth over £50m for the duo, according to the Telegraph.

Arsene Wenger has been desperately trying to bring in a new striker and centre-back before the transfer window closes next week and Thursday proved to be the day Arsenal finally found a breakthrough.

A new central defender became a priority after Gabriel joined Per Mertesacker on the sidelines with a serious ankle injury and we’ve been strongly linked with Mustafi in recent weeks but have been struggling to agree terms with Valencia.

However, the Telegraph claim that we have finally agreed a deal worth £35m for the German international on Thursday evening and Mustafi is now expected to arrive for his medical and finalise personal terms.

The structure of the deal isn’t made clear in the newspapers report but I’ve seen suggestions elsewhere that we could be paying £28m up front with a further £7m coming in add ons, but this is yet to be verified.

It does seem likely that there will be some form of performance related bonuses involved as it’s difficult to see Wenger spending £35m on a defender but even at £28m Mustafi will be one of our most expensive signings ever.

And on a hugely exciting day, it looks like we’ve finally got our hands on a new striker as the Telegraph are one of several news outlets who are claiming that we’ve agreed to sign Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez.

The paper says we hijacked Everton’s proposed deal for the 27-year-old after making a late swoop on Wednesday with Arsenal agreeing to meet the striker’s £17m buyout clause.

Negotiations have moved swiftly and a deal is now in place with the Telegraph saying Lucas expected to head for London to undergo his medical and complete personal terms.

Lucas isn’t the big name striker fans have been waiting for but he’s still a top class player who scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for a side that was fighting relegation from La Liga last season.

He is known for his pace and clever movement, and has even been likened to Jamie Vardy, so the Spaniard will offer something completely different to Olivier Giroud up front.

It looks like the next couple of days are going to be extremely busy as Wenger closes in on two big-money signings that will take our summer spending close to the £100m mark.

We expected and hoped for a big named, quality striker. What we have got is somebody I’ve never heard of. I hope the man fills the hole and does us proud, but until that happens I will just class this transfer as a cheap, desperate deal.
