Liverpool Tipped To Beat Tottenham To Signing Of £15m Croatian Midfielder

Liverpool are favourites ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign a £15m Croatian international midfielder before the window closes on Wednesday night.

The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham and Liverpool are linked with Ante Coric…

Liverpool are in pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Ante Coric after his proposed £15m move for Manchester City collapsed, according to the Mirror.

Coric progressed through the Zagreb youth team since joining the club in 2013 before being promoted to the first team squad in 2014 where he’s established himself as one of the hottest young talents in European football.

The 19-year-old is already part of the senior Croatian national team squad and has scored an impressive 11 goals and provided a further 15 assists in his 80 appearances for Zagreb over the past two years.

His potential has caught the eye of several Premier League teams with the Mirror claiming that Manchester City were set to have beat Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton to his signature after the Citizens saw their £15m bid accepted earlier this month.

However, the newspaper suggests that Coric has pulled the plug on the move as he believed City were simply ‘stock-piling’ his talent and therefore felt he had virtually no chance of making the breakthrough in to Pep Guardiola’s first team squad any time soon.

His fears were confirmed when the attacking winger found out City planned to send him out on loan once the move was completed so the teenager has pulled out of the deal – much to the annoyance of Dinamo and City.

The Mirror suggest that this news has alerted long-term admirers Liverpool and Tottenham with the duo now understood to be ready to battle it out over the signing of Coric during the closing days of the window.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to bring in a replacement for Nacer Chaldi – who’s heading to West Brom – and the Spurs coach could now move for Coric after seeing his approach for Wilfried Zaha rejected by Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has been extremely active in the market this summer bringing in seven new players but the Reds boss is believed to be keen on further strengthening his attacking options and has been tracking Coric all summer.

The Mirror claim that both clubs will have to match the £15m offer that City had accepted, however, they also suggest that Liverpool are currently in pole position ahead of Tottenham to secure a deal for Coric before the end of the month.

We’ll have to wait and see whether that turns out to be the case but Coric would be an exciting addition for either club if they can get a deal agreed over the next few days.
