Tottenham Submit £16m Bid For French Midfielder [Sky Sports]

Tottenham have formalised their interest in Moussa Sissoko after tabling an opening £16m offer for the £35m-rated Newcastle midfielder, according to Sky Sports.

Transfer deadline day is finally here so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Here, Tottenham have made their move for Moussa Sissoko….

Tottenham Hotspur have formalised their interest in Moussa Sissoko after tabling an opening £16m offer for the £35m-rated Newcastle United midfielder, according to Sky Sports.

Mauricio Pochettino has been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far – bringing in just two major signings – but it looks like Spurs are gearing up for a busy final day of the window.

The Argentinean coach is understood to be keen on strengthening his attacking options and the Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Spurs had turned their attention to Sissoko after ending their interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

It appears Tottenham have now stepped-up their interest in Sissoko with Sky Sports claiming that an opening £16m offer has been submitted – although the bid still falls well short of Newcastle’s lofty £30m-£35m valuation.

The 27-year-old has been tipped to leave St James’ Park all summer following their relegation from the Premier League last season and attracted plenty of attention following some impressive displays for France at Euro 2016.

I expect Newcastle will reject Tottenham’s opening £16m offer and we’ll have to wait and see whether chairman Daniel Levy decides to increase their bid if they do, but I think Sissoko would be a solid signing for the north Londoners.

The Frenchman is capable of playing in the middle of the park so can provide cover now that Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb have left while he’s also comfortable playing out on the wing if needed, giving Pochettino plenty of options.

Obviously Sissoko has vast experience in the Premier League so won’t need any time to adapt to English football and will therefore be able to have an immediate impact, so I think he’d be a good purchase…if Spurs can get a deal agreed before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
