Gareth Southgate will be hoping to make a positive start to life as England manager when the Three Lions take on Malta at Wembley this evening.

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney starts in a deeper midfield role while club mate Jesse Lingard lines-up in attack along with Arsenal’s in-form Theo Walcott.

Joe Hart starts between the sticks while John Stones is joined in defence by Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, Tottenham’s Kyle Walker and Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand.

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson starts in midfield while Daniel Sturridge leads the line up front with Dele Alli in support.
