Liverpool will look to book their place in the next round of the EFL Cup when they entertain Tottenham at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and has given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.

The German coach is expected to freshen things up tomorrow night for the visit of Spurs and while Klopp has refused to give away too much about his team selection, he has confirmed one starter for the game.

When asked whether Simon Mignolet will be recalled to the starting eleven for the League Cup clash, Klopp confirmed that the Belgian international will come back in to the side but admitted that his former No.1 isn’t happy about losing his place to Loris Karius.

The German stopper has taken over the first team gloves since arriving in the summer and while Karius himself has looked dodgy at times, he’s still currently considered as first choice ahead of Mignolet.

The Liverpool squad heads in to the Spurs game in good health with Klopp confirming they have a few bumps and bruises from the West Brom game but no new injury concerns to worry about.

He told the clubs website:

“The chance [pf Mignolet playing] is at 100 per cent – it’s a good chance! That’s only if nothing happens in training, then he will play 100 per cent.

“He is a real professional. We’ve had a few talks. It’s not that I had the perfect answer – I could not say ‘you are bad and he is good’ and that’s why he [Karius] is playing.

“It is what I call a luxury problem. It is no problem, we only have to make a decision – and I made the decision. Of course, he was not happy about this, but he is a very serious person and a good professional, so for us it is the most comfortable situation I could imagine that we have these goalkeepers fit and in shape.

“In this moment, we have a number one and that’s Loris Karius, like we had a number one when Loris was not fit and it was Simon.

“That’s the situation and what the goalkeepers know. I cannot leave them in doubt. There was a short period, a short moment, with the two or three games we gave Loris to see a little bit more of him.

“After the last international break, I spoke to both of them and we made this decision. Loris is, in this moment, number one and Simon is, in this moment, number two, but that’s all.”

“There’s nothing really serious, a few knocks. A few boys didn’t train yesterday, but the [West Brom] line-up didn’t train, they had recovery and were in therapy. There has been nothing serious until now, so hopefully it stays like this.”

So the Liverpool squad is in excellent shape with Gino Wijnaldum coming through his return from a hamstring injury unscathed against WBA while Adam Lallana also showed no signs of his recent groin problem.

Klopp is expected to mix things up with youngsters like Marko Grujic, Ovie Ejaria, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Kevin Stewart all pushing to be part of the squad that takes on Tottenham tomorrow night.
