Liverpool entertain Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the EFL Cup tonight for what will be a heavy-weight clash at Anfield.

The Reds head in to the game in excellent form having extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions with a hard fought 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

That victory saw Liverpool move level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table so Jurgen Klopp’s men should be full of confidence on home soil tonight.

Spurs are also on a fine run themselves as the north Londoners maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the league with a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth at the weekend which leaves them just one point adrift of the leaders.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side thrashed Gillingham 5-0 in the previous round but they’ll face a much stiffer test at Anfield this evening, while Liverpool booked their place in the last 16 thanks to comfortable away wins over Burton and Derby.

Team news

Klopp is expected to make plenty of changes to his starting eleven with the Liverpool boss taking the opportunity to give his key men a well-earned rest.

Simon Mignolet will start in goal while Alberto Moreno, Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva are also set for recalls to the starting eleven but Jordan Henderson misses out through suspension.

Youngsters Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marko Grujic could be handed rare starts while Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are set to come in to the attack along with Danny Ings – who’s expected to make his first start of the season.

Gini Wijnaldum made a successful return from a hamstring injury with a substitute appearance off the bench on Saturday so he may be given a start in order to build up his fitness.

Tottenham are also set to field a weakened side with Michel Vorm, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies, Kevin Wimmer and Cameron Carter-Vickers all coming in at the back.

Moussa Sissoko starts a three-game ban after accepting an FA violent conduct charge following an incident with Harry Arter on Saturday while Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld remain out with injury.

Vincent Janssen is likely to be given another chance to impress up front while youngsters Harry Winks, Josh Onomah, Tom Carroll and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou are all expected to feature for Spurs.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham: Both clubs are in solid form but with Klopp and Pochettino expected to field weakened sides it’s difficult to make a prediction. If the teams line up as predicted above, Liverpool look to have the stronger eleven on paper and with the added advantage of playing at home, I think the Reds will edge it tonight.
