Liverpool booked their place in the draw for the quarter finals of the EFL Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The hosts started brightly and broke the deadlock inside the opening ten minutes as Daniel Sturridge turned home a deflected shot from Oviemuno Ejaria after the youngster had pounced on a slip from Kevin Kkoudou on the edge of the area.

Liverpool doubled their advantage midway through the second half as Sturridge beat the offside trap before racing clear to cooly slot home for 2-0 in the 64th minute.

Spurs got themselves back in the game little over ten minutes later when Lucas Leiva was punished for a clip on Erik Lamela inside the area. Vincent Janssen stepped up to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute.

Sturridge almost grabbed his hat-trick after hitting the bar with a superb curling effort as the Merseysiders held on to secure a 2-1 win and book their place in the hat for the quarter final draw.
