Several of the Manchester United players have been celebrating on social media after they booked their place in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho named a strong team for the game as he looked to make amends following Sunday’s humiliating 4-0 drubbing by Chelsea and the Portuguese coach was relieved to see his side edge past their rivals with a narrow win at Old Trafford.

Juan Mata proved to be the match-winner as the Spanish playmaker fired home in to the bottom corner following good work from Zlatan Ibrahimovic shortly after half time to book United a place in the quarter finals where they’ll entertain West Ham.

After the game, several of the United players have been posting celebratory messages on Twitter with Jesse Lingard, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, David De Gea, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all expressing their delight at the derby victory.

Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Memphis Depay, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney have also uploaded photos and messages to their Instagram accounts as United turned Manchester red.

Check out what the players have been saying here:

Very good game. Now qualify for the next round. Mentally Positive. Siempre mente positiva
