Bundesliga Midfielder Reveals Arsenal & Liverpool Interest

By on October 27, 2016

With the summer transfer window closed, managers are now planning ahead to try and strengthen their squads this winter so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Naby Keita….

Guinea midfielder Naby Keita has claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool were among the clubs who tried to sign him during the summer before he opted to join Red Bull Leipzig, according to the Mirror.

Keita began his career with Horoya in his home country and spent time in France before heading to Austria where he impressed during a two-year spell with Red Bull Salzburg.

The 21-year-old’s potential caught the eye of several top teams throughout Europe and Keita has now revealed that Arsenal and Liverpool were among the clubs who tried to sign him during the 2016 summer transfer window.

However, the central midfielder opted to snub the Premier League giants in favour of completing a £12m move to Bundesliga big spenders Red Bull Leipzip as he doesn’t feel he’s ready to play for a ‘big’ club just yet and wants to prove himself in Germany first.

Keita is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“Arsenal, Manchester City and Southampton were all interested in signing me and Liverpool as well, although I did not speak with their coach,”

“I did not want to join a big Champions League club right away. It is too early for that. I want to prove myself in the Bundesliga first now.”

Keita has settled well in Germany with his three goals in six appearances helping Red Bull Leipzip get off to an impressive start to the new season that sees them currently sit second in the Bundesliga table and just two points off Bayern Munich.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal or Liverpool decide to renew their interest in the Guinea international but if he continues to show good form in Germany this season we may see the likes of Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp making another attempt to land Keita next summer.
