Manchester United will be looking to take a huge step towards the knock out stages of the Europa League when they take on Fenerbahce in Turkey this evening.

The Red Devils currently sit joint top of Group A with Feyenoord after a 4-1 win over Fenerbahce at Old Trafford two weeks ago left them on 6 points from their opening three group stages games.

With third-placed Fenerbahce sitting two points further back, another victory this evening would see United put one foot in the knockout stages as they’d move five points clear with just two games remaining.

Jose Mourinho’s men head in to the game off the back of a hugely disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Burnley but the game saw United create 37 chances so the Portuguese coach has put the result down to bad luck more than a poor performance.

Team news

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is hoping to make his first start in over two months after being included in the 21-man squad which travelled to Turkey having proven his fitness to Mourinho following a niggling thigh injury.

Phil Jones is also back in the frame after finally recovering from a knee injury and Mourinho has admitted that he may be forced to rush the defender back in to action due to injury concerns at the back.

Chris Smalling remains out with a foot injury while Antonio Valencia has joined Eric Bailly on the sidelines after suffering a fractured arm last week.

Michael Carrick hasn’t made the trip as he’s been rested ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Swansea while Memphis Depay has also been left back in Manchester.

Mourinho is expected to freshen things up in attack with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata getting a breather meaning there’s likely to be a recall for Wayne Rooney.

Likely Line-ups

Fenerbahce: Demirel; Wiel, Kjaer, Skrtel, Kaldirim; Topal, Souza; Lens, Chahechouhe, Van Persie, Sen

Predicted Score

Fenerbahce 1-2 Man Utd: Turkey is usually always a tough place to go and Fenerbahce has lost just one of their last nine matches in all competitions so this is going to be a difficult game. However, there’s no denying United were unlucky at the weekend and Fener have a poor record against English teams having won just four of their 18 meetings, so I fancy the visitors to edge this one.
