Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has given an update on his recovery from an achilles injury and it looks like the Spaniard is set to miss Saturday’s huge showdown against Manchester United.

Cazorla has been on the sidelines since aggravating a long-standing achilles injury during Arsenal’s 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogortets on October 19th.

The 31-year-old was hampered by the same problem throughout much of last season and it seems the injury is proving difficult to overcome this campaign, based on Cazorla’s latest update.

The Spanish international has been quoted by Sky Sports News as telling Spanish radio station Cadena COPE that he is doing all he can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible but has no idea when he’ll be able to return to action.

Cazorla said:

“I still don’t know the exact time,”

“I am trying to return as soon as possible to be with the team again, but I cannot say if it will be soon, or if I still have a few weeks left.

“I do not know, but hopefully it will be as soon as possible.”

With no imminent return in sight, it means Cazorla is once again set to miss out as Arsenal travel to Old Trafford for a crucial showdown with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime.

Cazorla’s absence will be a blow to Arsene Wenger as he’s been a key part of the Frenchman’s starting eleven but with Aaron Ramsey fit again and Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny all vying for starts, the Gunners boss has plenty of options in midfield.

Arsenal appear to have been handed more positive news elsewhere with Alexis Sanchez declaring himself fit and available for selection to face United after making a swift return from a hamstring problem.

Man Utd v Arsenal betting

Sanchez’s availability will come as a huge boost to Arsenal as they look to strengthen their credentials as title contenders with a positive result at Old Trafford. For those of you who bet on football online, the Gunners are currently 6/1 fourth favourites to win the title but those odds would shorten with a win on Saturday.

United are 6/4 to win this weekend while Arsenal are best priced at 19/10, and I fancy the Gunners to edge the game 2-1 which can be found at odds of 11/1.
