Arsenal have been dealt a fresh injury blow with the news that Santi Cazorla is now not expected to return from an Achilles injury until around Christmas time, according to the Mirror.

Cazorla has been on the sidelines since limping out of our 6-0 Champions League victory over Ludogorets at the Emirates on October 19th after aggravating a long-standing Achilles injury.

The Spanish international was hampered by the issue throughout last season and Arsene Wenger admitted that he initially substituted Cazorla against Ludogorets as a precaution due to his history of Achilles problems.

However, the injury has proven far more serious than first thought as Santi has already missed our last six matches in all competitions and it looks as though he’s nowhere near ready to return.

The Mirror claim that the 31-year-old visited renowned specialist Dr Ramon Cugat last month and was given an injection with the hope it would settled the injury and allow Cazorla to make his comeback against Tottenham two weeks ago.

However, the midfielder still felt the problem when he stepped up his training and was forced to return to Spain to see Dr Cugat during the recent international break to have yet more treatment on his troublesome Achilles.

But it looks like it’s not had the desired effect as Cazorla is still unable to take part in training and the Mirror claim that Arsenal have decided to give the midfielder more time to try and fully recover from the injury.

The newspaper says that boss Arsene Wenger is now planning to be without Cazorla until at least around Christmas time, meaning he could be set to miss our next seven matches in all competitions including our crucial clash with Manchester City on December 18th.

It’s a significant blow as we’ve sorely missed Cazorla over the past month and there is no doubt he’ll be a huge miss over the next few weeks when the games start to come thick and fast.
