[Tweet] Liverpool Legend Hits Back At Diouf Following Attack On Steven Gerrard

Former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise has hit out at El-Hadji Diouf after he launched another scathing attack on club legend Steven Gerrard.

Former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise has hit out at El-Hadji Diouf after the Senegalese international launched another scathing attack on club legend Steven Gerrard.

Diouf joined Liverpool from Lens in 2002 after Gerard Houllier splashed out around £10m on the forward but he struggled to settle during a troublesome two-year spell on Merseyside.

Gerrard and Diouf famously didn’t get on with the former captain claiming in his 2015 autobiography that the former Blackburn Rovers attacker didn’t care about football or Liverpool.

Diouf has made several digs towards Gerrard in the past and he launched a fresh attack on the 36-year-old while speaking on French TV last night after telling SFR Sport that he doesn’t respect Gerrard as a man.

The Senegalese star went on to claim that Gerrard was ‘nothing’, questioned his career due to his lack of success on the international stage and said that ‘Stevie G’ was afraid to look in to his eyes during another bizarre rant.

Here are some quotes from the interview [source: Mirror] or you can watch the interview below.

“People told me at Liverpool, there was some guys you could not touch, but I touched them [Gerrard & Carragher]. That is why it was complicated for me.”

“When I arrived I showed him he [Gerrard] was nothing at all. He was nothing at all. I asked him to tell me in which big competition, Euros or World Cup, people think about him.”

“You are talking about Euros and World Cup. Today I owe you respect [Petit], I owe respect to Mr Zidane because you did win the World Cup.”

“I repeat. I respect [Gerrard] the player, very big player, but the man, I do not respect. And I told him, I let him know that.

“With all my respect I let him know. For me in Liverpool, he was not just a player like anyone else. He had to work and play his football as I had to work and play my football.

“Then as you know, there were some brown-nosers, who went to the manager to repeat what I said. That was the real problem. When Gerrard did that, we had an argument, like real men.

“That is why he does not like me. He knows I say what I think, that when it is not right, no problem, I am up for it.

“He could not, he was afraid of looking into my eyes. He was afraid of talking to me. Let’s not forget when I arrived I did not ask for his shirt. He asked for my Senegal shirt for one of his mates.”

Understandably, Diouf’s latest comments haven’t gone down to well among the Liverpool fan-base but former Reds team mate John Arne Riise has also hit-back at the player following his attack on Gerrard.

Riise is a real fan favourite after spending seven successful years at Anfield and was there during Diouf’s two-year spell, and the Norwegian defender has now taken to Twitter to mock Diouf for his latest attack on their former skipper.

It’s obvious that Gerrard and Diouf don’t like each other but it’s bizarre why the former Bolton man feels the need to drag the row on for so many years. Perhaps Diouf just wanted a bit of the limelight on Gerrard’s big day following his retirement announcement or maybe he’s just a little obsessed. Either way, I think we all know who’s side the Liverpool supporters, and many former players, are on.
