Jurgen Klopp has been speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s EFL Cup clash with Leeds Utd and has offered reporters a team news and injury update ahead of the game.

Obviously the Liverpool boss was quizzed for the latest on Philippe Coutinho after he was stretchered off during Saturday’s Premier League win over Sunderland with suspected ankle ligament damage.

Klopp was in no mood to speculate over how long the Brazilian international would be out for but did confirm that he’ll undergo a scan this afternoon where the full extent of his injury will be revealed.

The German coach had more positive news on the fitness of Adam Lallana after the midfielder missed the last two matches with a groin injury that he sustained while away with England earlier this month.

Lallana is now close to returning to full training with the rest of the first team squad and could be back in contention to face Bournemouth next weekend, but he’ll remain on the sidelines for tomorrow’s League Cup tie.

Liverpool’s attacking options are going to be stretched against Leeds as Klopp also confirmed that Daniel Sturridge is set to miss the game as the striker is still unable to take part in training due to a calf injury.

Sturridge suffered the problem in training last week and is expected to once again miss out against Leeds after being ruled out of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Anfield.

There is also a concern over Roberto Firmino’s fitness after the Brazilian international limped out of the win over the Black Cats at the weekend with a suspected calf injury.

Klopp indicated after the game that the injury wasn’t serious but he’s said today that they’ll have to wait and see how the attacker reacts after training today before his availability is determined.

The Liverpool boss is quoted as saying by the Express:

“You know about Philippe. We will know more this afternoon. The best thing would be he is not out but it isn’t likely.

“We have to wait for the final scan. We know what it will probably be.”

“Adam is close to being back in training but he won’t be ready.

“Daniel isn’t in training and we will have to wait on Firmino. We will have to see how he is after training today.”

So Liverpool have a number of injury concerns as they prepare to welcome Championship hopefuls Leeds to Anfield for their quarter final clash at Anfield on Tuesday night – although Klopp is expected to rest many of his key men anyway.
