Arsenal & Liverpool Boost As Agent Hints At Move After Confirming Interest

The agent of reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Emil Forsberg has admitted that the midfielder could leave RB Leipzig during the January transfer window

Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window or next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, updates on the future of Emil Forsberg…

The agent of reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Emil Forsberg has admitted that the midfielder could leave RB Leipzig during the January transfer window, according to a report by ESPN.

Forsberg has been a revelation since joining Leipzig from Malmo in January 2015 and he’s been outstanding this season having scored five goals and set up a further nine for his team mates so far.

The Swedish international’s performances have played a key role in helping Leipzig mount a shock title challenge during their maiden campaign in Germany’s top flight with the club sitting second and only three points behind Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old’s impressive form has led to interest from throughout Europe with the players agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, confirming that ‘big clubs’ have already expressed their interest in signing the midfielder during the January window.

ESPN claim that Arsenal and Liverpool were named by German outlet Bild as two of the clubs who’re keen on signing Forsberg this month and Cetinkaya has suggested his client could be on the move over the coming weeks.

He’s quoted by ESPN as saying to Bild:

“I can’t confirm any names. But after the great first half of the season, big clubs have reached out to me,”

“RB are on a good way to become a big club, which plays in Champions League soon. In spite of that I can’t promise that Emil will stay in Leipzig this winter.”

“It’s about what Leipzig plans for him. I will seek talks with sporting director Ralf Rangnick in the next few days,”

Forsberg is under contract until 2021 and Leipzig are under no financial pressure to sell as they are backed by Red Bull but they have suggested in the past that they’ll listen to offers for their key men if tempting bids are put on the table.

Arsenal have seen their midfield options reduced in recent weeks with Francis Coquelin set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury, Santi Cazorla is out until March following ankle surgery while Mohamed Elneny is off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also had their injury problems to deal with so Arsene Wenger may be looking to bring in Forsberg in order to strengthen his squad for the second half of the campaign.

However, Liverpool are also seemingly in the running with Jurgen Klopp a long-term admirer of the Swedish midfielder and the Reds boss has had his scouts check on Forsberg this season ahead of a potential January move.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days and weeks but Forsberg would be an exciting purchase for either Arsenal or Liverpool if they were able to get a deal agreed and it would be interesting to see how he’d adapt to life in England.
