Liverpool Boost As Star Offers Positive Injury Update

A Liverpool star has handed the club a major boost after confirming that he’s set to make his return from injury. See what he’s had to say here

Joel Matip Liverpool

Liverpool have been handed a major boost after Joel Matip told Liverpoolfc.com that he’s set to return to full training in ‘a few days’ after recovering from an ankle problem.

Matip has played just one of Liverpool’s last eight games in all competitions and missed the entire festive period after struggling to overcome a niggling ankle ligament injury which has hampered him in recent months.

The injury was initially not thought to be too serious but Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been cautious with the Cameroon centre-back as he was keen not to rush him back too soon and aggravate the injury even further.

However, Matip is now on the verge of making his comeback as the 25-year-old has revealed that the injury is now better and he’s expected to resume full training in ‘a few days’ time.

Matip told Liverpoolfc.com:

“[It’s] getting better and in a few days I hope I’ll be back in full training,”

“That’s the plan but you never know how it will go. We are really positive and hope that this chapter is closed.

“It was my left ankle, a ligament was damaged. At the beginning it needed rest but after this I wanted to play too early.

“Three or four weeks before the West Ham game was the first time I really felt it and I still wanted to play a little bit too early.

“But now, I’m on a good way.”

The return of Matip will come as a huge boost to Liverpool as the defender has proven to be a superb signing for the Reds since arriving from Schalke on a free transfer last summer.

Liverpool’s No.32 had formed an excellent understanding alongside Dejan Lovren in the middle of defence before he was sidelined through injury so no doubt he’ll be keen to resurrect that partnership – although Ragnar Klavan has impressed in recent weeks.

Matip’s imminent return comes at the perfect time as Liverpool have crucial league games against Manchester United and Chelsea coming up as well as a two-legged EFL Cup semi-final tie with Southampton to look forward to.
