Liverpool will be looking to give their title challenge a major boost when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Here is the side I think Jurgen Klopp will select for the game:

Goalkeeper: The Reds boss has gone with Loris Karius for their last two cup games and he performed well during the defeat to Southampton in midweek but Simon Mignolet has done little wrong since being restored as first choice so the Belgian international is expected to come back in to the side this weekend.

Defence: Liverpool were boosted by the return of Joel Matip who resumed full training yesterday but after several weeks out with an ankle injury the centre-back is unlikely to be thrown straight back in to the starting eleven.

Therefore, Ragnar Klavan is expected to continue alongside Dejan Lovren in the middle of defence on Sunday while James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne will once again occupy the full-back positions.

Midfield: Jordan Henderson is back in contention after recovering from a minor heel injury and the skipper could get a recall this weekend as his fitness levels should be fine considering he’s only been out for a couple of games.

Emre Can is the man most likely to make way meaning that Henderson should line-up along with Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana in the middle of the park against United.

Attack: Philippe Coutinho made a successful return to the pitch after playing the final thirty minutes of Liverpool’s EFL Cup defeat to Southampton on Wednesday night. The Brazilian has shown no ill-effect so he’s expected to start against United.

Roberto Firmino is a certain starter and he’ll probably play from the wing with Sadio Mane unavailable due to his participation at the African Cup of Nations. Daniel Sturridge had a frustrating night at St Mary’s but he could keep still keep his place ahead of Divock Origi up front.

Here is how we think Liverpool will line up:
