Arsenal Ready To Battle Man Utd Over £50m-Rated International

By on January 16, 2017

Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are ready to do-battle with Man Utd over Kostas Manolas….

Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United over the signature of £50m-rated Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Manolas has developed in to one of the best defenders in Europe since joining Roma from Olympiacos in the summer of 2014 and he’s constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal reportedly made a move for the Greek international last summer and the players agent, John Evangelopoulos, was quoted in the Mirror as saying last week that the Gunners had seen a £35m offer knocked back by Roma.

It looks like the Gunners have maintained their interest as the newspaper is now carrying a report from Italian outlet Corriere della Sera that claims Arsenal will make another attempt to sign Manolas next summer.

Per Mertesacker is out-of-contract at the end of the season and with the 32-year-old tipped to head back to Germany, Arsene Wenger could be eyeing Manolas as the ideal replacement.

However, the north Londoners will face stiff competition for his signature as the Mirror state that Manchester United have also been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old.

Jose Mourinho Man Utd

Jose Mourinho has been linked with a number of central defenders in recent months and Manolas would be a superb addition for the Manchester giants if they were able to lure him to Old Trafford.

However, the Mirror suggest that it will take as much as £50m to persuade Roma to sell and if that’s the case then you’d have to say that United will be favourites ahead of Arsenal due to their superior financial power.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Manolas would be a great signing and I’d love to see him plying his trade in the Premier League next season.
