By on January 22, 2017

Diego Costa returned with a goal to help Chelsea secure a 2-0 win over Hull City at Stamford Bridge this afternoon and move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Hull made life difficult for Chelsea during the opening forty-five minutes but Antonio Conte’s side eventually broke the deadlock deep in to first half stoppage time and it was that man Costa who opened the scoring.

The Spanish international returned to the starting eleven this afternoon after missing the win over Leicester City following a bust-up with Conte but the striker swept home from a Victor Moses cross to make it 1-0 just before the break.

The visitors were causing the Blues plenty of problems but Chelsea eased any fears that they could drop points today by doubling their lead in the 81st minute when Gary Cahill headed home from a Cesc Fabregas free-kick.

There was no way back for Hull so Chelsea eased to a 2-0 victory which sees them tighten their grip at the top of the table as they move eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal after 22 games played.
