Tottenham Star Mourinho’s ‘Ideal’ Signing As Man Utd Boss Plots Double Swoop

Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann are on Jose Mourinho’s wish-list as the Manchester United boss looks to bring in two new strikers

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are looking to bring in two new strikers….

Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann are on Jose Mourinho’s wish-list as the Manchester United boss looks to bring in two new strikers this summer, according to ESPN.

United remain sixth in the Premier League table and a full 14 points adrift of leaders Chelsea after being held to a hugely disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Hull City on Wednesday night.

The result means United have scored just 33 goals in their 23 league games so far, which is by far the lowest out of the top six teams and is just one more than 18th placed Crystal Palace have registered so far.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to hear that Mourinho is concerned by his lack of firepower and ESPN claim that the Portuguese boss plans to rectify things by bringing in two new proven goal-scorers this summer.

The report indicates that Tottenham hitman Harry Kane would be Mourinho’s ‘ideal’ signing with the England international netting 15 goals in his 21 games so far this campaign.

Kane would certainly provide United with another potent goal-threat but ESPN state that Old Trafford chiefs acknowledge it will be extremely difficult to lure the 23-year-old away from White Hart Lane any time soon.

Antoine Griezmann has also been strongly linked with a move to United in recent months and the report claims that Mourinho is confident that the club are in pole position to pull off what could be a world record deal to sign the French international this summer.

Griezmann has been in superb form for Atletico Madrid since joining the club from Real Sociedad in 2014 having scored 72 goals and provided a further 20 assists in his 136 appearances so far.

That’s exactly the type of striker United are crying out for and it would be a major coup if the Red Devils are able to land the 25-year-old as Griezmann was recently named as the third best player in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has proven to be a big hit since moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer last summer with 19 goals to his name so far but the 35-year-old can’t go on forever and none of United’s other strikers have shown they are capable of taking over from the Swede.

Anthony Martial’s future is in serious doubt as he’s failed to impress Mourinho on a consistent basis while Marcus Rashford’s form has dipped and he’s scored just 6 goals in his 28 appearances this season.

It’s going to be an interest few months at Old Trafford and Mourinho clearly has some ambitious plans for the summer, however, they may be heavily influenced should United fail to make the top four and miss out on Champions League football.

United fans should be praying that their current crop of strikers start to find some form in front of goal during the second half of the season or they may have to forget signing the likes of Griezmann this summer.
