Arsenal & Liverpool Plotting Moves For £30m Danish International

Arsenal and Liverpool are plotting big-money moves for Leicester City’s £30m-rated goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to reports

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Kasper Schmeichel….

Arsenal and Liverpool are plotting big-money moves for Leicester City’s £30m-rated goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Schmeichel – son of Manchester United legend Peter – has been Leicester’s first choice keeper since joining the club from Leeds United in 2011 and has racked up 238 appearances for the club over the past six years.

The 30-year-old played a key role in helping the Foxes gain promotion to the top flight in 2014 and was outstanding during Claudio Ranieri’s sides title-winning triumph last season.

Schmeichel’s performances have caught the attention of several clubs with the Daily Star claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool and former club Manchester City are all showing a keen interest.

Liverpool have been linked with the Danish international for some time and Ranieri insisted back in December that his No.1 wouldn’t be heading to Anfield during the January transfer window.

The Italian is quoted as saying by the Daily Star:

“He is under contract and we won’t sell him under any circumstances,

“Not even big money. We don’t need the money. There’s no chance.

“I’m sorry for Liverpool but they can win the title without Kasper.”

However, Leicester’s resolve to keep Schmeichel is going to be tested this summer and the keeper is almost certainly going to push for a move if Leicester go down.

The defending champions currently sit just one place and one point outside the relegation zone so they are in a real dog fight to maintain their top-flight status, which is a remarkable collapse considering what they achieved last season.

And it looks as though Schmeichel will have plenty of options this summer as the Daily Star claim that Arsenal, Liverpool and City are all plotting summer moves for the Dane.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is being tipped to bring in a new first choice keeper this summer due to concerns over the performances of Petr Cech while City boss Pep Guardiola also needs to address his goalkeeping problems with Claudio Bravo struggling to adapt to life in England.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of keepers in recent months with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet both struggling to find consistent form this season and Schmeichel appears to be on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.

Much will depend on whether Leicester manage to stay up but the Daily Star suggest it would take an offer of £30m to persuade the Foxes to sell this summer.
