Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Luke Shaw won’t be involved against Saint-Etienne tomorrow as he’s set to name an unchanged back four.

United welcome the Ligue 1 outfit to Old Trafford on Thursday evening for the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie and some thought Mourinho may take the opportunity to rotate his squad and give some of his fringe players a chance to impress.

Shaw has started just one of United’s last 18 games in all competitions – playing 90 minutes during the 4-0 FA Cup win over Wigan last month – so he could certainly have done with a run out tomorrow night.

However, the young full-back is once again set to miss out as Mourinho has confirmed that he’s going to stick with the same back four that started during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Watford.

It means that Daley Blind will continue at left-back with Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly lining-up in the middle of defence and Antonio Valencia once again occupying the right-back position.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Mourinho told ManUtd.com:

“He’s [Shaw] not playing tomorrow, because my team is playing well and I am happy with my back four, I am going to repeat Valencia, Bailly, Smalling and Daley Blind.”

Left-back is a position that’s been wide open this season with Shaw, Blind, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo all being given chances to impress at various points of the season.

However, Shaw has fallen badly out-of-favour in recent months and this latest snub compounds what has been another frustrating campaign for the 21-year-old as he battles to salvage his Old Trafford career.
