[Video Goals] Bayern Munich 5-1 Arsenal: Gunners Torn Apart By Rampant Bayern

By on February 15, 2017

Arsenal are on the cusp of crashing out of the Champions League after a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg this evening.

Bayern dominated from the outset and opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Arjen Robben was allowed to cut in on his deadly left foot and the Dutch international curled in to the top corner from 20 yards for 1-0.

The goal seemed to spark us in to life and we got the perfect chance to level things up when Robert Lewandowski fouled Laurent Koscielny in the area midway through the first half.

Alexis Sanchez saw a tame penalty saved by Manuel Neuer but after scuffing his initial follow-up, Sanchez chested the ball before firing in to the far corner to make it 1-1 after 30 minutes.

However, we totally collapsed after the break with Bayern taking the lead through a Lewandowski header before Thiago slotted home for 3-1 in the 56th minute.

The tie was practically over when Thiago’s effort from the edge of the area deflected off Granit Xhaka and in to the net for 4-1 in the 63rd minute

Thomas Muller slotted home a late fifth to leave us with a mountain to climb in the second leg at the Emirates and realistically our Champions League hopes are over for another year.
