Mourinho To Launch £30m Raid On Arsenal If Man Utd Boss Fails To Land Chelsea Star

By on February 19, 2017

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Willian and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain…

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will target a £30m deal for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain if he fails to persuade Chelsea to sell Willian this summer, according to the Mirror.

Mourinho decided against making any significant new additions to his squad during the January window and instead sold off some of his fringe players with Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin joining Lyon and Everton respectively.

It looks like Mourinho is gearing up for a busy summer and the Mirror claim that the Portuguese coach is planning to strengthen his midfield and wide options with Willian one of his prime targets.

The Brazilian international was quoted by Sky Sports earlier this month as confirming that Mourinho tried to lure him to United last summer and it looks as though the Red Devils boss will make a fresh approach at the end of the season.

However, United know it’s going to be extremely difficult to persuade Antonio Conte to sell one of his key players so the Mirror says that Mourinho has now identified Oxlade-Chamberlain as an alternative target.

The 23-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular at the Emirates since moving from Southampton in 2011 and has failed to fulfill his huge potential having scored just 3 Premier League goals over the past two seasons.

Confusion over Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal has only heightened doubts over Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term position at the club and it looks as though United are hoping to take advantage of the situation.

The Mirror claim that Mourinho is planning to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £30m swoop this summer as he believes Oxlade-Chamberlain has the potential to develop in to a real star at Old Trafford.

The midfielder’s contract is approaching it’s final year so Arsenal are going to be in a vulnerable position this summer and they may be forced to cash-in if an extension isn’t agreed over the coming months.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it’s certainly going to be an interesting summer and I’m sure United wouldn’t be the only club interested if Oxlade-Chamberlain was on the market.
