Liverpool Star Visits Specialist In Bid To Cure Niggling Injury

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has flown out to Germany to see a specialist due to on-going concerns over a niggling knee injury, according to the Mirror.

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has flown out to Germany to see a specialist due to on-going concerns over a niggling knee injury, according to the Mirror.

Lovren was last seen after completing the full ninety minutes during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the end of January and hasn’t featured in their last two games against Hull and Tottenham.

The Croatian international picked up a knee injury at the start of the month and was initially only expected to be on the sidelines for a matter of days.

However, the injury has proven more difficult to shift than the Reds medical staff anticipated and Lovren was forced to miss last week’s warm weather training camp in La Manga.

Instead, the centre-back remained at Melwood to continue his treatment and Jurgen Klopp was hoping he’d be ready to return to training when the squad returned from Spain on Sunday.

However, the Mirror claim that Lovren has now flown to Germany to see a specialist consultant to have the knee assessed further as Klopp is keen for the defender to be back in action as quickly as possible.

The newspaper says Liverpool remain confident the injury isn’t anything serious and there is still a chance Lovren will be passed fit to face Leicester City on Monday night.

The Merseysiders head to the King Power sitting fifth in the Premier League table, one point above Manchester United and one adrift of Arsenal and Tottenham, so Klopp will be desperate to have Lovren available for this crucial clash.

If the Croatian star is once again ruled out, then Klopp is likely to stick with Lucas Leiva alongside Joel Matip after his solid performance at the back during the 2-0 win over Tottenham earlier this month.
