By on February 23, 2017

Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Europa League after only managing to draw 2-2 with Gent tonight meaning the Belgian’s progress 3-2 on aggregate.

Things started well for Spurs as they levelled things up at 1-1 on aggregate when Christian Eriksen took advantage of some poor defending to race clear and slot home in the 10th minute.

However, Gent were gifted an equaliser when Harry Kane put through his own net following a 20th minute corner meaning Tottenham needed two goals to progress and the north Londoners task got even harder when Dele Alli was dismissed for a horror tackle shortly before half-time.

Spurs gave themselves hope when Victor Wanyama curled home a lovely effort to make it 2-1 on the night but Gent scored the killer goal in the 82nd minute to make it 2-2.

There was no way back for Tottenham so they crash out with Gent moving in to the last-16 thanks to a 3-2 aggregate victory.
