Mourinho Ready To Launch Audacious Swoop For £27m Chelsea Star
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Cesc Fabregas….
Jose Mourinho remains a huge fan of Cesc Fabregas and will try to lure him to Manchester United if Chelsea decide to sell this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Mourinho signed Fabregas from Barcelona during his time at Stamford Bridge back in 2014 and built his title-winning side around the Spanish international playmaker that season.
However, Mourinho took over the reigns at Old Trafford last summer after being sacked by Chelsea 14 months ago and Fabregas has struggled to establish himself under new boss Antonio Conte.
The 29-year-old has made just six Premier League starts this season with the Italian coach preferring Nemanja Matic alongside N’Golo Kante for the vast majority of games this campaign as the Blues march their way towards the title.
The former Arsenal captain did impress on Saturday after scoring one and creating another during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Swansea and Conte was full of praise for the playmaker after the game.
However, Fabregas’s future in west London remains in serious doubt and after turning down the chance to leave in January he’s being tipped to look for a move this summer if he doesn’t force his way in to Conte’s plans on a regular basis during the closing stages of the season.
There will be no shortage of interest in the stylish midfielder and the Telegraph claim that AC Milan are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m offer as the Italian giants look to rebuild once their takeover by Chinese investors is complete.
However, the newspaper suggests that Mourinho remains a huge fan and will make an audacious attempt to lure Fabregas to United if Chelsea decide to cash-in this summer.
Mourinho reportedly failed in attempts to sign Matic and Willian last summer so the chances are Chelsea will also rebuff any attempt to sign Fabregas – although the fact he’s not a first team regular may open the door to a surprise deal.
We saw in the case of Juan Mata that Chelsea will sell to rivals such as United if the player is deemed surplus to requirements and the money is right so we could yet see Fabregas making a shock switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Mourinho needs to bring in a replacement for Michael Carrick and Fabregas would be an excellent addition if the Red Devils were able to thrash out a deal with the Blues for his signature.
