Liverpool & Man Utd Ready To Battle Over Signing Of Want-Away Arsenal Star
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks set to leave Arsenal….
Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs showing an interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the midfielder set to leave Arsenal this summer, according to reports.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to force his way in to Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven on a regular basis following his move from Southampton back in 2011.
The 23-year-old has often been used in a variety of positions and while he has started 19 games in all competitions this season, he’s managed to complete the full ninety minutes on just seven occasions.
The midfielder is now approaching the final year of his contract and surprisingly the Telegraph claim that Arsenal have yet to even approach his representatives over an extension.
Understandably, Oxlade-Chamberlain has become increasingly frustrated with the uncertainty over his long-term future and the newspaper says he’s now decided a fresh start is needed to rejuvenate his career.
The Telegraph suggest that even if Arsenal were to offer him a new deal now, it would be rejected as Oxlade-Chamberlain has seemingly made up his mind that he needs a new challenge after failing to fulfill his potential at the Emirates.
No doubt there will be plenty of interest in the England international with the Telegraph claiming that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on his situation as Jurgen Klopp looks to continue his rebuilding job at Anfield this summer.
The Merseysiders have long been linked with a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain and his versatility is sure to appeal to Klopp with the youngster capable of playing anywhere across the midfield and attacking midfield positions.
However, it looks like Liverpool will face stiff competition as the Mirror say that Manchester United are also keen if Oxlade-Chamberlain does leave north London at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for another busy summer in the transfer market and it appears he feels he could get more out of Oxlade-Chamberlain than his old foe Wenger has managed.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal would be willing to do business with direct rivals such as Liverpool or United but that’s the caliber of club Oxlade-Chamberlain will surely want to join if he does stay in England.
