Man Utd Plotting Audacious Swoop For Arsenal Attacker, Mourinho A Big Fan
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Mesut Ozil….
Manchester United are plotting a sensational swoop for Mesut Ozil with Jose Mourinho eyeing a reunion with the Arsenal playmaker at Old Trafford, according to Football London.
Ozil is approaching the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and his future is in serious doubt as the north Londoners are struggling to agree terms over an extension having held talks with his representatives.
The German international is understood to be demanding a deal worth in excess of £250,000-a-week and so far the Gunners have refused to meet his demands for a contract that would make him the highest paid player in the clubs history.
Football London claim that there is a growing feeling within Arsenal that Ozil will not sign a new deal which would leave the north Londoners with little option but to cash-in this summer rather than lose him for nothing in 2018.
Losing Ozil would be a huge blow for the Arsenal fans to take but if that’s not bad enough, the report states that Manchester United are now plotting an audacious swoop for the 28-year-old.
Mourinho knows Ozil well from their time together at Real Madrid and Football London suggests the Red Devils boss is keen to be reunited by luring the attacker to Old Trafford this summer.
The so-called ‘Special One’ has never hidden his admiration for Ozil having previously described him as the best No.10 in the world. Mourinho is quoted as saying recently by Football London:
“Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one.
“He is the best number 10 in the world.”
Ozil’s future is one of a number of problems the beleaguered North Londoners need to resolve over the coming months but supporters would be furious if the club agreed to sell the playmaker to United.
Arsene Wenger has promised Arsenal fans that the days of selling their best players to their rivals are long gone and seeing Ozil join United would bring back painful memories of Robin van Persie moving to Old Trafford in 2012.
If Ozil does end up snubbing a new deal, then no doubt Arsenal would prefer to sell him abroad with Bayern Munich among those linked with a move for the former Madrid schemer.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but it would be a sensational coup if United were able to somehow get a deal agreed for Ozil this summer.
