La Liga Star Speaks Out Amid £25m Arsenal Move Reports

By on March 23, 2017

Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Arda Turan….

Arda Turan has played down speculation linking him with a move away from Barcelona amid reports suggesting Arsenal are plotting a £25m swoop, according to the Metro.

Turan made his name at Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid before earning a big-money move to Barcelona in 2015 but he’s struggled to establish himself during his two years at the Nou Camp.

The Turkish international is well down boss Luis Enrique’s pecking order and has managed to start just 13 La Liga games so far this season leading to suggestions he’ll look for a fresh challenge this summer.

The Times [via the Sun] reported this morning that Arsenal have identified Turan as a key target and are plotting a £25m swoop for the 30-year-old at the end of the season.

With Mesut Ozil tipped to leave the Emirates after failing to agree a new contract, the report indicates that Arsene Wenger has identified Turan as a potential replacement for the German playmaker.

However, it looks like we’ll have some persuading to do to tempt Turan to north London as the attacker has now played down suggestions he’ll leave Barcelona after insisting he wants to see out his contract at the Nou Camp.

Turan is quoted as saying by the Metro:

‘Not only China there also other transfer speculations about me,’

‘But I am very happy at Barcelona and I want to stay until the end of my contract.’

I personally wouldn’t read too much in to these comments as players rarely come out in public and say they want to leave, especially at a club like Barcelona, but I can’t imagine Turan is too happy sitting on the bench most weeks.

While I don’t really see him as a like-for-like replacement for Ozil, I do think Turan would be a very useful addition to the squad as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but if he continues to struggle for game-time, I think it would be worthwhile testing Barca’s resolve with a formal offer and it would be great business if we could snap Turan up for £25m.
