Chelsea, Liverpool & Tottenham To Battle Over £25m Premier League Star
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are ready to battle over Ben Gibson…
Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to battle it out over the signing of Middlesbrough’s £25m-rated defender Ben Gibson this summer, according to the Express.
Gibson has developed in to one of the most promising young centre-backs in British football since breaking in to the Middlesbrough first team having progressed through their youth ranks.
The 24-year-old is now firmly established as a first team regular at the Riverside and has been virtually ever-present this season while he’s also tipped to become a full England international after being drafted in to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania on Sunday.
Gibson’s impressive form has attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League with the Express claiming that Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are now ready to battle it out over his signature this summer.
While the centre-back signed a new long-term contract last summer, Middlesbrough know they have virtually no chance of keeping hold of Gibson if they are relegated and the newspaper says they have also acknowledged they will struggle even if they stay up so a move is on the cards at the end of the season.
However, the Teeside club won’t be looking to sell their star man on the cheap and the Express suggest it will take an offer of around £25m to persuade Middlesbrough to cash-in this summer.
We’ll have to wait and see if any club will be prepared to meet that figure but it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool or Tottenham given the financial resources available at those clubs.
Chelsea are in the market for a long-term replacement for John Terry and Gibson is seemingly on Antonio Conte’s radar as the Blues boss looks to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
But Liverpool and Spurs are also needing to strengthen their defensive options and it appears Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are eyeing moves for Gibson to make it an intriguing three-way battle for his signature.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out but I think Gibson would be an excellent signing for any of the three clubs being linked and I fully expect him to make a big-money move this summer.
