Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are battling-it-out to secure a £50m deal to sign James Rodriguez as the attacker looks set to quit Real Madrid this summer, according to the Mirror.

Rodriguez joined Madrid after starring at the 2014 World Cup but after an encouraging start to life in Spain the attacker has struggled to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven this season.

The Colombian international has started just 7 La Liga games so far this campaign with the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to hear the 25-year-old is eyeing a move this summer in order to secure more regular first team football and it seems he could now be heading to the Premier League.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing Rodriguez and will go all-out to try and secure his signature at the end of the season.

The newspaper suggests that Madrid want to try and recoup most of the £63m they paid to sign Rodriguez from Monaco three years ago but could end up settling for a deal closer to £50m.

That sort of money is affordable for the English giants, especially with the new TV deal kicking in next season, so it’s going to be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months.

Champions-elect Chelsea are expected to further strengthen their squad this summer as they prepare to return to the Champions League and Rodriguez would give Antonio Conte another option in attack to ease the pressure on the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro.

Arsenal are gearing up for a busy summer of rebuilding following a disappointing campaign and Rodriguez is the caliber of player the north Londoners need to sign if they’re to become genuine title challengers again.

However, Liverpool will provide stiff competition for the London duo as Jurgen Klopp is ready to push-on with his rebuilding job at Anfield and the Reds coach needs to add more depth if the Merseysiders are to maintain a title challenge next season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress as we head in to the summer but I think Rodriguez would be a superb signing for any of the three clubs being linked and it would be great to see him plying his trade here in England next season if one could get a deal agreed.
