[Video Goals] Southampton 0-2 Arsenal: Sanchez Scores As Gunners Close On Top 4

By on May 10, 2017

Alexis Sanchez was on target as Arsenal boosted their top four hopes with a professional 2-0 win over Southampton at St Marys this evening.

It was a tight opening forty-five minutes and although Arsenal dominated possession it was Southampton who created the better chances with Petr Cech twice making excellent saves to keep it 0-0 at the break.

We started to turn the screw in the second half and eventually broke the deadlock thanks to a superb piece of skill from Sanchez as he sat two Saints defenders on the ground before firing home in the 60th minute for 0-1.

Any nerves about a late Southampton goal were extinguished when Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head home the second in the 86th minute to secure a vital 2-0 win.

The victory sees us climb to fifth in the table and three points off Manchester City with Liverpool a further point ahead but crucially we have a game in hand on the Merseysiders.
