Tottenham & West Ham Could Yet Sign Playmaker Despite Everton Agreeing £25m Deal

Tottenham or West Ham could yet sign Gylfi Sigurdsson despite Everton agreeing a £25m fee for the Swansea City playmaker.

Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Everton agree a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson…

Everton have agreed a £25m fee to sign Tottenham and West Ham target Gylfi Sigurdsson but the playmaker’s wage demands could yet scupper a move to Goodison Park, according to a report by London Football.

Sigurdsson has just come off the back of another impressive campaign that saw him score 10 goals and provide a further 13 assists to help Swansea avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Despite securing their top flight status for another year, the Welsh club are expected to lose their star man this summer with a number of clubs seemingly vying for Sigurdsson’s signature.

London Football claim that Tottenham, West Ham and Everton are among the clubs who have been showing a keen interest in signing the 27-year-old this summer and it appears the Toffees have moved in to pole position to secure a deal.

The report cites the Mirror as saying that Everton have agreed terms with Swansea over a £25m deal, however, the players wage demands could yet scupper the proposed switch to Merseyside.

The newspaper says Sigurdsson wants £120,000-a-week and it remains to be seen whether Everton will be prepared to meet the Icelandic international’s hefty demands.

Should Ronald Koeman’s side fail to agree personal terms, then the door will be open for Tottenham and West Ham to swoop-in and hijack Everton’s deal.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Spurs have switched their attention to re-signing Sigurdsson after cooling their interest in Ross Barkley due to Everton’s £50m asking price.

Mauricio Pochettino tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to further strengthen his Tottenham squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and the Argentinean coach is seemingly keen to lure Sigurdsson back to White Hart Lane after the playmaker’s failed two year stint in north London between 2012-2014.

However, West Ham could provide stiff competition as Slaven Bilic is also looking to rebuild his squad following a disappointing campaign and Sigurdsson would bring some much-needed creativity if he was to join the Hammers.

As it stands, it looks like Everton are in the box seat to sign the Icelandic star but until personal terms are agreed I wouldn’t rule out a move to the likes of Tottenham or West Ham just yet.
