Chelsea Confident Of Beating Man Utd To Sign £43m Ligue 1 Star

Chelsea are in talks with Monaco over a £43m deal to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko and are confident of fending off competition from Man Utd to land the midfielder

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are confident of signing Tiemoue Bakayoko….

Chelsea are locked in talks with Monaco over a £43m deal to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko and are confident of fending off competition from Manchester United to land the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Bakayoko has developed in to one of the best central midfielders in Europe since joining Monaco from Rennes in 2014 and played a key role in helping Leonardo Jardim’s side clinch their first French league title since 2000.

The 22-year-old’s superb form has attracted interest from the Premier League with both Chelsea and Manchester United strongly linked with the midfielder in recent months.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Chelsea had stolen a march on United after opening formal talks with Monaco after Antonio Conte had made Bakayoko his prime midfield target this summer.

It looks like the negotiations are progressing as the Daily Mail claim today that Chelsea are confident they can fend off competition from United to secure a £43m deal for Bakayoko.

The newspaper says Conte is set to hold personal talks with the French international over the coming days while Monaco have expressed an interest in taking Michy Batshuayi or Charly Musonda as part of any deal.

Conte has just led Chelsea to their fifth Premier League title but he knows he needs to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and Bakayoko would be a superb addition as he would form a devastating partnership alongside N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park.

United will obviously be disappointed if they do miss out but the Daily Mail suggest Jose Mourinho could turn his attention to Nemanja Matic if Bakayoko does end up heading for Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho needs to sign a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and he knows Matic well from their time together at Chelsea, and the Serbian international would be left out in the cold following Bakayoko’s arrival.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be willing to do business with United but they did sell Juan Mata to their rivals recently so we could see a similar deal happening with Matic.
