Arsenal could be set to miss out on the signing of Henry Onyekuru with West Ham now considered as favourites to sign the KAS Eupen striker this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Onyekuru has just come off the back of a breakthrough campaign that saw him score 25 goals for KAS Eupen to finish the season as the Belgian top flights joint leading goal-scorer.

That form in front of goal has alerted several Premier League clubs with Sky Sports News claiming that Arsenal, West Ham and Swansea City have all expressed their interest in signing the forward.

It looked like Onyekuru was heading to the Emirates as Football London reported last week that the striker had agreed personal terms worth £38,000-a-week with Arsenal and was due to undergo a medical in north London after the Gunners had agreed to pay his release clause.

However, it appears there has been a late twist in the tale as Sky Sports News are now reporting that West Ham have emerged as favourites ahead of Arsenal to sign Onyekuru.

The news outlet says the 20-year-old will fly to England on Monday to hold talks with interested clubs after he’s plays for Nigeria in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on Saturday.

Sky Sports also claim that Onyekuru has a release clause worth £6.85m written in to his contract but that only applies to clubs outside of England so the likes of Arsenal and West Ham will have to pay a higher clause worth £7.85m.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for reinforcements as he looks to reshuffle his squad after finishing outside the top four and Onyekuru was being lined-up as a potential replacement for Lucas Perez – who’s set to head back to Spain following a frustrating campaign.

However, it looks like the Hammers are leading the chase as they can offer the player more regular first team football and I think Onyekuru would be a good piece of business if Slaven Bilic can pull it off.
