Chelsea Tipped To Hijack Man Utd’s Proposed £60m Striker Deal

Chelsea are being tipped to launch a last gasp attempt to hijack Manchester United’s proposed £60m move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are tipped to make a late move for Alvaro Morata….

Chelsea are being tipped to launch a last gasp attempt to hijack Manchester United’s proposed £60m move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to a report in the Express.

Morata is expected to leave Madrid this summer just 12 months after rejoining the club from Juventus as he’s struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

The 24-year-old managed just 16 starts in all competitions last season with the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him in the pecking order so with a World Cup coming up next summer, Morata wants a move in search of regular action.

The Spanish international has been strongly linked with a move to Man Utd with Spanish outlet AS reporting earlier this week that Morata’s agent was at the Bernabeu speaking with Madrid officials about a possible move to Old Trafford.

It was suggested in the newspaper that Morata has agreed terms over his part of the move and United are hoping to get a deal agreed to sign the striker for around £60m – which is £20m short of Madrid’s valuation.

Jose Mourinho is desperately trying to sign a top class striker after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it looked as though Morata was due to become United’s second signing following the arrival of defender Victor Lindelof.

However, there could be a late twist in the tail as the Express are quoting journalist Josep Pedrerol as telling TV show El Chiringuito that Chelsea are set to make a late hijack attempt to snare Morata from under United’s noses.

Pedrerol is quoted by the Express as saying:

“There will be a last attempt by Chelsea for Morata because Conte is desperate for Morata.

“It seems that the Chelsea option draws strength and that is good news for Real Madrid because in the end are two teams fighting for their player.”

Antonio Conte is also in the market for another striker after telling Diego Costa he’s free to leave this summer and the Italian knows Morata from their time together at Juventus.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days to see whether Chelsea do try and hijack United’s deal but I think Morata would be an excellent signing for either club.

Despite his lack of starts last season, he still managed to chip in with 20 goals and he has the potential to become one of the very best strikers in Europe if he’s given a more prominent role at Chelsea or United.
