Manchester United may be ready to meet Tottenham Hotspur’s £50m asking price to sign Eric Dier this summer, according to a report in the Express.

Jose Mourinho is gearing-up for a busy summer in the transfer market as he looks to create a title-winning squad and a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick is among his priorities.

Dier has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks but it looked as though any potential deal was off the cards after the Telegraph reported over the weekend that Tottenham had slapped a £50m valuation on his head.

Spurs are desperate to keep their talented young squad together after finishing second in the Premier League last season but they know their key men could earn much more at some of their rivals.

Daniel Levy is known to be a shrewd operator in the transfer market and the Tottenham chairman was trying to deter any interest in Dier by putting an ambitious asking price on the versatile midfielder.

However, it appears United haven’t been put off as the Express are citing a report form the Manchester Evening News that says the Manchester giants could be ready to match Tottenham’s £50m valuation.

United obviously have vast financial resources and flexed their muscle in the transfer market last summer by breaking the world record to sign Paul Pogba so we know they aren’t afraid to spend big on their key targets.

Dier has enjoyed a steady rise to the top since joining Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and the 23-year-old is now an established England international at the heart of Gareth Southgate’s midfield.

He’s been used largely as a centre-back by Mauricio Pochettino during his time at White Hart Lane with Victor Wanyama the Argentinean coaches’s first choice in the holding midfield role.

However, it seems Mourinho is ready to offer Dier the opportunity to play in his preferred position if he agrees to move to Old Trafford so it will be a tempting switch if United do end up getting a deal agreed with Spurs.

According to another ‘report’, Tottenham have not quoted a price as they not interested in selling Dier, to anyone, let alone a scummy team like Man Ure!
I know which report I believe.
