Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal close in on deal to sign Alexandre Lacazette…

Arsenal have scheduled further talks with Lyon early next week to finalise a deal to sign Alexandre Lacazette after submitting a £44m bid for the striker, according to reports in France via the Express.

Lacazette enhanced his reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe after scoring 37 goals in all competitions to help Lyon finish fourth in the Ligue 1 table last season.

The French international’s form attracted interest from a number of top clubs with Football London reporting last week that Arsenal and Liverpool had held talks with Lyon after the striker’s proposed move to Atletico Madrid collapsed.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a prolific goal-scorer amid doubts over the future of Daniel Sturridge and Lacazette has emerged as a target as the Liverpool boss looks to build a squad capable of competing in the league and Champions League next season.

However, Arsenal have moved in to pole position to sign the 26-year-old as the Express claim the Gunners have matched Lyon’s asking price after submitting a formal £44m offer late last week.

This comes after the Ligue 1 outfits president Jean Michel Aulas confirmed last week that Arsenal had put forward a ‘very interesting offer’ as the French club prepare to cash-in on their star player.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a top class striker to help turn Arsenal in to genuine title challengers and Lacazette would certainly add a new dimension to the north Londoners attack.

It looks like a transfer is now close to completion as the Express are citing a report from RMC that claims Arsenal have scheduled further talks with Lyon early next week where they hope to wrap-up the deal.

The French outlet says Lacazette is open to the idea of moving to the Emirates despite the lack of Champions League football on offer next season and the strikers move to Arsenal could be completed by the end of next week once he returns from holiday.

Lacazette’s arrival would cast serious doubt over the future of Olivier Giroud as the 30-year-old has expressed his desire to play regular first team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days and there may still be time for Liverpool to try and hijack Arsenal’s proposed deal, but as of now it looks like the Gunners are closing in on what would be a club record deal to sign Lacazette.
