Chelsea Ready To Submit £60m Bid But Player Wants Liverpool Move

Chelsea are ready to table a £60m bid to sign Virgil van Dijk but the Southampton defender remains keen on joining Liverpool this summer

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Virgil van Dijk….

Chelsea are ready to table a £60m bid to sign Virgil van Dijk but the Southampton defender remains keen on joining Liverpool this summer, according to a report in the Express.

Van Dijk is one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window after developing in to arguably the best centre-back in the Premier League since joining Southampton from Celtic in 2015.

The 25-year-old’s future at St Mary’s is in serious doubt as he’s attracted interest from a whole host of top clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City in recent weeks.

It looks like the Blues are ready to step-up their pursuit as the Express are citing a report from the Daily Mail that claims Chelsea are ready to test Southampton’s resolve with a £60m offer.

Antonio Conte is looking to further strengthen his squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and the Italian is in the market for a centre-back to replace out-going skipper John Terry with van Dijk among his key targets.

However, the champions still have a lot of work to do to land the Dutch international as the Express claim that van Dijk is still holding out for a move to Liverpool this summer.

The Merseysiders were forced to issue an apology after Southampton accused the Reds of ‘tapping-up’ van Dijk following reports that the defender had opted to join Liverpool after speaking with Jurgen Klopp.

However, despite the public apology, the newspaper claims Liverpool have not given up hope of securing a deal and it seems van Dijk remains keen on moving to Anfield if he does force his way out of St Mary’s.

Southampton are clearly ready to play hardball over their star man as new manager Mauricio Pellegrino will be desperate to keep hold of van Dijk as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the top six.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress but I think the defender will eventually get his move and despite Chelsea’s interest, I wouldn’t bet against van Dijk being a Liverpool player next season.
