Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd confirm a deal is in place to sign Romelu Lukaku…

Manchester United have confirmed a deal has been agreed with Everton to sign Romelu Lukaku despite a last gasp attempt from Chelsea to hijack the move.

Lukaku’s future has been the subject of much speculation this summer as he’s been expected to leave Goodison Park after turning down the chance to sign a new deal with Everton.

The Belgian international was initially expected to re-join former club Chelsea but United moved in to pole position after reports emerged late last week [via the BBC] that the Red Devils had agreed a fee for Lukaku’s signature.

Sky Sports News claim that Chelsea made a late move to try and hijack the deal after the Premier League champions indicated they were prepared to match United’s offer.

However, it seems it wasn’t enough to derail proceedings as United announced on ManUtd.com this morning that they have now agreed terms with Everton for the transfer of Lukaku subject to a medical and personal terms.

A statement on the clubs website read:

Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed a fee with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. The transfer is subject to a medical and personal terms.

A further announcement will be made in due course.

United haven’t disclosed details of the deal but Sky Sports claim they will pay £75m up front plus an additional £15m in add ons meaning the transfer could be worth a whopping £90m – plus Wayne Rooney is expected to move to Everton on a free transfer.

Lukaku is set to undergo his medical in Los Angeles – where he’s been holidaying with soon-to-be team mate Paul Pogba – ahead of linking up with the United squad on their pre-season tour of the US.

The 24-year-old seems delighted to be on the verge of joining United as a video has emerged on social media of the moment when Lukaku and Pogba celebrate the news that a deal has been agreed.

Jose Mourinho has been desperately trying to buy a new striker this summer to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swede left the club and it looks like he’s now found his man.

I think Lukaku should prove to be an excellent signing as he enhanced his reputation as one of the best forwards in the Premier League by scoring 26 goals for Everton last season and he should only improve at Old Trafford.

However, losing out on Lukaku will be a huge blow to Chelsea as Antonio Conte will be frustrated at missing out on a potential replacement for Diego Costa – who’s been told he’s free to find a new club this summer.
