Serie A Star Arrives In London For Medical Ahead Of £34m Chelsea Move

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Antonio Rudiger is set to undergo his medical with Chelsea…

Roma star Antonio Rudiger has arrived in London to undergo his medical after Chelsea agreed a £34m deal to sign the centre-back this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Antonio Conte has been on the look-out for a new central defender after long-serving skipper John Terry joined Aston Villa and so far the Italian boss has been frustrated in his attempts to land his key targets.

However, a breakthrough was finally reached last week in Chelsea’s pursuit of Rudiger with Sky Sports claiming the Blues agreed a fee with Roma that could rise to £34m including various add ons.

It looks like the deal is close to completion as the news outlet says the 24-year-old has now arrived in London to undergo his medical this afternoon and finalise his switch to Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports also indicate that personal terms between Chelsea and Rudiger have already been agreed so the German international is set to become the clubs second major signing of the summer following the free transfer arrival of goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

The news will come as a huge boost to Conte as Rudiger has developed in to one of the most consistent defenders in Italian football since joining Roma from Stuttgart in 2015.

He helped lead the club to a second-placed finish behind champions Juventus last season and he’s now a regular in the German squad so I think Rudiger will prove to be an excellent signing for Chelsea.

The player will also be pleased to get a new start in England as he was the subject of vile racist abuse during his two year stay in Rome so I’m sure Rudiger will be desperate to get his career started in London once his proposed switch to Chelsea is wrapped-up.
