Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with two Lazio players….

Liverpool have held talks with Lazio over potential deals to sign centre-backs Sefan de Vrij and Wallace this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his defence, according to the Express.

Klopp has made just one major addition to his squad so far this summer with the signing of winger Mohamed Salah but the German coach knows he needs to tighten up at the back if they’re to challenge for the title this season.

Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Virgil van Dijk earlier in the summer but any hopes of landing the Dutch international were dented after they were forced to issue a public apology to Southampton over their pursuit of the defender.

It’s meant Klopp has had to turn his attention to alternatives and it seems he’s identified two Lazio centre-back’s as potential targets as the Express are reporting that Liverpool have held talks over de Vrij and Wallace.

The newspaper cites Il Messaggero as the source of the information with the Italian outlet claiming the Merseysiders have spoken with Lazio sporting director Igli Tare about the pair during discussions over Lucas Leiva.

The Brazilian midfielder has been tipped to join Lazio this summer and it seems Liverpool took the opportunity to also discuss potential deals for de Vrij and Wallace during the negotiations.

Liverpool have been linked with de Vrij in the past and they could snap him up at a bargain price as he’s in the final year of his contract and is yet to commit to an extension.

The 25-year-old is a regular in the Dutch national team and has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in Italy since joining Lazio from Feyenoord in 2014, so he’d be a very decent signing if Liverpool could get a deal agreed.

Wallace on the other hand only joined Lazio from Braga last summer following an impressive loan spell at Monaco and the 22-year-old is tipped for a bright future in the game.

He’s yet to earn a cap for the Brazilian national team so a work permit could be a problem and Wallace would be a far less established signing compared to team mate de Vrij.

It’s unclear whether Liverpool were hoping to sign both players or just one this summer but we’ll have to wait and see whether Klopp decides to follow-up his interest in the duo with formal offers.
