An early look at the bookmakers favourites for the 2017/18 title

The new 2017/18 Premier League season is just a month away so I’m going to take a closer look at some of the early favourites for the title.

The new 2017/18 Premier League season is just a month away so I’m going to take a closer look at some of the early favourites for the title.

Man City – 2/1

Manchester City are currently the 2/1 favourites with most bookmakers and it’s easy to understand why as Pep Guardiola is spending some serious money rebuilding his already talented squad this summer.

Goalkeeper Ederson has arrived from Benfica while City splashed out over £40m on midfielder Bernado Silva from Porto and Kyle Walker has just completed a £50m move from Tottenham.

Despite spending over £120m already, City are expected to take their summer total to well over £200m with a new left-back and attacker still on the agenda for Guardiola.

With one of the most expensively assembled squads in Europe and arguably the best manager in the world in the dugout it’s no wonder the bookies have City down as favourites to win the league this season.

Chelsea – 7/2

The Blues will be looking to defend their title but judging on their summer business so far I don’t think there will be too many fans heading to 188BET and betting on Chelsea to secure back-to-back Premier League’s.

Antonio Conte has been frustrated in his attempts to land his key targets with Romelu Lukaku heading to Man Utd while Leonardo Bonucci has just joined AC Milan from Juventus.

Antonio Rudiger has arrived but he wasn’t Conte’s first choice centre-back target and with top scorer Diego Costa primed for a return to Atletico Madrid, the west Londoners desperately need to strengthen their squad if they’re to compete in the league and Champions League this campaign.

Man Utd – 10/3

Jose Mourinho is doing what he knows best this summer – splashing the cash – with United already paying over £130m for centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Manchester giants are also expected to bring in a full-back, centre-midfielder and another attacker during the coming weeks as Mourinho looks to make up for losing Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It was a disappointing debut league campaign for Mourinho at Old Trafford as they finished a lowly sixth but I expect them to be right in the mix for the title this year.

Arsenal – 10/1

Arsene Wenger has wasted no time in strengthening his squad after signing a new two-year contract at the Emirates with left-back Sead Kolasinac arriving from Schalke while the Gunners smashed their club transfer record to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

I still think they are short of a dominant midfielder to be classed as one of the favourites for the title but if Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey can step-up this season they may be a tempting bet at odds of 10/1.

However, in order for Arsenal to stand any chance, they desperately need to tie Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil down to new contract as soon as possible.
