Manchester United are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve with a final £60m offer for Eric Dier as Jose Mourinho looks to secure his third signing of the summer, according to the Mirror.

Mourinho has already spent over £110m on centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku but a central midfielder is next on the agenda for the United manager.

Michael Carrick turns 36 later this month so a long-term replacement for the newly-appointed United skipper is needed and Dier has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks.

The Manchester Evening News [via the Mirror] reported last week that Dier is desperate to join United but Tottenham have made it clear he isn’t for sale after rejecting a £40m offer.

However, it seems United are ready to test that resolve as the Mirror claim today that the Manchester giants are set to submit a final take it or leave it £60m offer for the versatile midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether that sort of money would persuade Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to cash-in but it seems Dier is keen for a move to Old Trafford to join his boyhood club.

The England international only penned a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane last summer but he’s struggled to hold down a regular first team place in his preferred central midfield role.

Victor Wanyama is Mauricio Pochettino’s choice in the holding role so Dier has had to make-do with playing in defence for much of his time at Spurs since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in 2014.

However, with Mourinho not only promising a significant pay rise but also offering Dier the chance to play in his favoured midfield role, you can appreciate why the player is keen to secure a move to United this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but as much as Tottenham want to keep hold of Dier, as we saw with Kyle Walker, Money talks these days so I’m sure United can tempt them in to a sale if the offer is right.

Utter Tripe a journo who like the mirror is only on a nodding acquaintance with the truth.

Yep, clearly no understanding of Diers play or mindeset, how Spurs 4-4-2 3-5-1-1 system works or our player rotation. If he did he would just slap himself for writing such tripe.

You may or may not know anything about either club, or about Eric Dier – but by now you should know that if it’s in The Mirror the story is pure fiction

Will they finally get the message, stop trying to unsettle him and clear off when they are told again that he is not for sale!?!
