Manchester United have opened talks with Marco Verratti’s representatives to express their interest in signing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder this summer, according to a report in the Express.
Verratti has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe since moving to France from Pescara in 2012 and he’s played a key role in helping PSG win four Ligue 1 title over the past five seasons.
However, the Italian international’s future at the Parc des Prince has been the subject of much debate this summer with Barcelona strongly linked with a move for Verratti in recent months.
The 24-year-old was recently forced to issue a public apology and commit his future to PSG over comments made by his agent regarding a proposed move to the Nou Camp but that hasn’t stopped speculation suggesting the player could be on the move this summer.
The Express reported three weeks ago that Man Utd could move for Verratti following the collapse of his switch to Barca with the newspaper suggesting that PSG may reluctantly sell if £88m was put on the table.
It appears the Red Devils have now renewed their interest in the midfielder with the Express citing a report from Tuttomercatoweb that claims United scout Jose Mayorga has held talks with Verratti’s entourage about a possible move to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has already splashed out over £100m on the signings of centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku but the United boss is seemingly in the market for another central midfielder.
Michael Carrick is about to turn 36 so a long-term replacement is needed and Verratti would be a sensational signing if United were able to lure him to England this summer.
Their hopes of doing so have been handed a major boost as the Express claim Verratti is ready to hire Mino Raiola as his new agent and he’s a man United know extremely well as he has brokered deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lukaku to move to Old Trafford over the past 14 months.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but United are one of the few clubs in world football who could realistically afford to buy Verratti and I think he’d be a superb signing if they could pull it off.
