Morata To Have Medical & Finalise £70m Move On Thursday After Chelsea Confirm Deal

Alvaro Morata is on his way to Chelsea to undergo his medical after they agreed a deal with Real Madrid to sign the striker this summer.

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Alvaro Morata…

Alvaro Morata is on his way to Chelsea after the Blues confirmed on Chelseafc.com they have agreed a deal with Real Madrid to sign the striker this summer.

Antonio Conte has been desperately trying to sign a new front-man after informing Diego Costa he no longer has a future at the club and the Italian coach has so far been frustrated in his attempts.

Chelsea missed out on the signing of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United while they’ve been linked with a number of other strikers but Morata soon emerged as Conte’s new prime target.

The Premier League champions have now announced that they’ve agreed terms with Madrid and the player is heading to Chelsea subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

A statement on the clubs official website said:

Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge.

The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The precise details of the fee haven’t been disclosed by either club but the Guardian claim Chelsea will pay Madrid around £70m for the Spanish international which means Morata will become their record signing with the deal eclipsing the £50m they paid for Fernando Torres in 2011.

Morata has been in the United States on Madrid’s pre-season tour but Sky Sports News claim he will arrive in London on Thursday morning to undergo his medical with a view to signing a five-year contract.

As long as there are no late hitches, Morata is set to become Chelsea’s fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Once his move is finalised, the Spanish international may head to China to link-up with the Chelsea squad on their pre-season tour with the Blues set to face Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

I think Morata will be an excellent signing for Chelsea as despite only starting 16 games last season he still managed to score 20 goals and he has the potential to be a real star if he’s given a more prominent role at Stamford Bridge.

Conte will no doubt be delighted to have finally got his hands on a new striker and Morata’s arrival will push Costa closer to the exit door with a move to Atletico Madrid looking likely.
