Liverpool & Chelsea Join Tottenham In Race To Sign Bundesliga Star

Liverpool and Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Hoffenheim star Jeremy Toljan this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the race hots-up to sign Jeremy Toljan….

Liverpool and Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Hoffenheim star Jeremy Toljan this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

The 22-year-old joined Hoffenheim in 2011 and progressed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the first team set-up during the 2013/14 campaign.

Toljan is now an established member of the starting eleven and impressed in the Bundesliga last season as Hoffenheim finished fourth to book their place in the Champions League qualifiers for the first time.

The full-back also played a key role in helping Germany win the Under-21 European Championships this summer and his potential appears to have caught the eye of several clubs here in the Premier League.

Sky Sports claim Tottenham are showing a keen interest in signing Toljan after Mauricio Pochettino identified the right-back as a potential replacement for Kyle Walker – who joined Manchester City earlier this month.

Toljan’s agent told Sky Sports it’s always good to read that ‘fantastic’ clubs like Tottenham are interest but insists they are yet to hear anything from the north Londoners:

“It is always a pleasure to read big clubs like Tottenham are interested in Jeremy.

“Spurs are a fantastic club with an excellent progression in the last years, but we didn’t speak to the responsible persons and, for the moment, everything is a rumour.”

Hoffenheim director of football Alex Rosen also fuelled speculation linking Toljan with a move to White Hart Lane after telling reporters earlier this week they couldn’t compete with Spurs if they came in for the player.

Rosen is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“If Tottenham come in and offer to treble Toljan’s salary, you cannot say: ‘London is an unattractive city or Tottenham are a bad club’. This is all very positive, and then young people think about it.”

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but if Tottenham formalise their interest in the player then they may face some stiff competition as Sky Sports claim Chelsea and Liverpool are also showing a keen interest in signing the defender.

Antonio Conte is in the market for a right-sided defender to compete with Victor Moses in the wing-back role and the Blues boss has seemingly earmarked Toljan as a potential target.

Jurgen Klopp is also looking to further strengthen his squad ahead of Liverpool’s return to the Champions League, although his interest in Toljan is curious as he already has highly-rated youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold to compete with Nathaniel Clyne at right-back.

The good news for any of the English clubs vying for his signature is that Toljan has just one year remaining on his contract so Sky Sports suggest he’s available for just £3m this summer.
