Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Leander Dendoncker is linked with Manchester United…

Manchester United are stepping-up their interest in Leander Dendoncker and the £34m-rated Anderlecht midfielder is understood to be keen on moving to Old Trafford, according to The Sun.

Jose Mourinho is growing increasingly frustrated with United’s lack of business in the transfer market as they’ve only managed to land two of his key targets so far in Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku.

The Portuguese coach has confirmed his desire to bring in a central midfielder as United desperately need to find a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick – who turned 36 today.

Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but The Sun are citing a report from De Morgen that claims Mourinho has now identified Dendoncker as a potential target.

The Belgian newspaper suggests United will step-up their interest in the midfielder by sending scouts to watch him in action during Anderlecht’s season opener against Antwerp and Dendoncker is understood to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Dendoncker is considered one of the brightest young talents in Belgian football after progressing through Anderlecht’s youth system to become a first team regular while he’s also earned his first caps for the Belgian national team.

The 22-year-old caught the eye after scoring against United during their Europa League quarter-final clash last season while he was also a key part of Anderlecht’s title-winning team last year.

However, United aren’t the only club showing an interest as AC Milan and RB Leipzig have also been touted as potential suitors while The Sun claim Anderlecht are demanding a whopping £34m for his signature.

Mourinho has been complaining about the inflated transfer fees being paid this summer so United may be put off by Dendoncker’s hefty valuation meaning they may decide against making their interest official over the coming weeks unless Anderlecht lower their demands.

Finally United have identified a midfielder who is not Mission Impossible to sign nor is he nearing the end of his career. I believe SAF had a rule that he wouldn’t buy any player if they were older than 26 which to me seems sensible because the player still has time to improve and the club wants a chance to get a good return for the cost of buying a player. I believe SAF only veered away from this rule once or twice and only when a very skilled player (who could realistically affect United’s standing in the table) was under consideration.
