Liverpool have entered the race to sign Thomas Lemar this summer after Arsenal saw their latest £50m bid for the attacker rejected by Monaco, according to a report in the Express.

Lemar has developed in to one of the most highly-rated young attackers in Europe after scoring 14 goals and providing a further 17 assists to help fire Monaco to the title last season.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal with The Sun reporting last week that the Gunners had finally reached a breakthrough in negotiations following lengthy talks with Monaco.

The newspaper even claimed Lemar has already agreed personal terms over his move to the Emirates so it seemed only a matter of time before Arsene Wenger would be unveiling his third major signing of the summer.

The Arsenal boss is in the market for attacking reinforcements amid on-going doubts over the future’s of Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lemar appears to be the man he wants.

However, a fee is yet to be agreed with Monaco and the Express claim that after seeing their latest £50m offer rejected by the Ligue 1 champions, Arsenal may now face stiff competition for the French international’s signature.

The newspaper is citing a report from Le10 Sport that claims Liverpool have entered the race to sign Lemar after Jurgen Klopp identified him as the ideal potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian international is being strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days after they earmarked Coutinho as the man to replace Paris Saint-Germain-bound Neymar.

Klopp has publicly insisted that their star man won’t be sold at any price but the Express suggest that the Reds boss is making contingency plans in-case Coutinho forces a move to the Nou Camp and Lemar is now on his radar.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop and much will depend on Neymar’s proposed switch to Paris as that could have a domino effect on the future’s of Coutinho and Lemar.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how it all plays out but I have a feeling Coutinho will stay at Anfield for at least another year which should pave the way for Arsenal to finally get a deal agreed for Lemar.
